The school:

Aventura Community School is a new public charter K-3 (and growing to K-8!) bilingual (English/Spanish) school in Southeast Nashville offering a project-based learning approach and a focus on global competence. Aventura opened in the fall of 2022 with grades K-1 and will add one grade level each year. The mission of Aventura Community School is to inspire deep inquiry and purposeful learning that establish our diverse community of students as whole-hearted leaders dedicated to creating a more just & peaceful world.

The Team:

Aventura Community School was founded by three parent-educators: Dr. Natalie Morosi, Mrs. Katie Castellon, and Mrs. Diana Aguilar, who each have over a decade of experience in bilingual educational settings both locally and abroad. K-3 Classroom Teachers will join the leadership team in launching new grade levels and developing Aventura as a diverse, bilingual, empowering school option for families in Southeast Nashville. With a dual-teacher classroom approach and varied opportunities for project-based learning and community engagement, Aventura teachers will have the opportunity to engage creatively and effectively in the classroom and beyond.

Responsibilities:

Paraprofessionals at Aventura will be responsible for:

● Supporting special education and general education teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students with disabilities

● Providing individual and/or small group support and instruction in accordance with students’ IEP

● Collecting instructional and behavioral data in accordance with students’ IEP goals

● Implementing/assisting with Behavior Intervention Plans and Section 504 plans

● Monitoring students’ safe movement throughout the building and associated areas

● Assisting students with health care procedures and assistive needs including: monitoring medication distribution, aiding general hygiene, overseeing use of assistive technology and mobility devices, etc.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have:

● An Associate’s Degree or higher in any subject completed at an accredited institution or two years of college coursework (60 semester hours or more) earned at an accredited college or university

● Proficiency in English and Spanish or proficiency in one and the desire/ability to learn the second language

● Experience working with elementary-aged students with disabilities

● Deep care for students and families aligned with Aventura’s unique anchors

● Curiosity and a commitment to continued professional and personal growth

● Passion for celebrating the unique cultures and characteristics that make each student, family, and staff member at Aventure unique and important
