The Program & Marketing Associate is a contract position that supports the staff and mentor team in Southern Word’s programming and marketing needs. This position includes a breadth of work including the facilitation of workshops, individualized and small group support in schools, program documentation and tracking, event planning, fundraising and development, and marketing and communications. There is special interest in applicants with multilingual capabilities to support English Language Learner programs in schools. The Program & Marketing Associate supports in-person activities so they must be willing to be present in programs according to a flexible schedule that ranges from 7 am through the evening as well as sporadic weekend activity. In partnership with the staff team, the associate will develop and execute a strategy that builds a connection to and understanding of Southern Word’s purpose and activities.
Anticipate 25 to 40 hours a week of work with seasonal fluctuations. Successful execution of this position will lead to increased youth and family engagement in program activities, increased understanding of Southern Word’s program and impact, deeper relationships and presence with program partners and staff, increased investment in the organization and programs by supporters, and additional opportunities for engagement and support among Southern Word’s staff and mentors.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. One or more years experience in a professional setting with demonstrated success implementing new projects. Ability to self-direct and thrive in unstructured settings by prioritizing activities with maximum impact. Ability to develop creative solutions that lead to practical and measurable impact and success. Aptitude for developing and maintaining effective relationships with a variety of partners in diverse settings. Responsive and adept via e-mail, text, phone, and social media. Excellent organizational skills are necessary. Ability to work positively with team members to reach goals. Comfortable with programs such as Microsoft Excel, MyEmma, Zoom, and Box. Ability to maintain and use these database systems to track and analyze the efficacy of work. The ability to develop and teach writing programs is a definite plus. Multilingual capabilities are a plus. Interest in growing with a growing organization. Flexibility and positivity in the face of shifting situations. Familiarity with Middle Tennessee programs and communities preferred.
